ASQ Presents!™

A.I in Medical data

Main Speaker: Dr. Betsy Macht

University Professor-Walden University
Dissertation Mentor/Chair
Committee member

Digital applications have broadened the opportunities to provide innovative healthcare in the medical, pharmaceutical, and consumer categories. With continuing advances in digital technologies, researchers and medical device company leaders can innovate and enhance the quality of care available to patients and consumers through the merger of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) applications with medical devices. However, the potential for data bias in AL/ML-enabled medical applications also must be considered.

Data bias in relation to AI, ML, and medical device performance could result in a variety of outcomes. Inadvertent data bias could potentially cause harm.

Bias could also positively target specific groups of patients, potentially increase use and access, and improve diagnostic accuracy. The professional community should engage in transparent discussion and consideration of the potential effects of data bias. The aim of this presentation is to consider the pros and cons of data bias in medical device applications.
