TWEF New England UnConference
As part of it's 2020 activities, and as a way for members to get to know each other the TWEF is organizing a one-day unconference in New England. The purpose will be to generate material for the body-of-knowledge and to energize membership.

A survey has been posted to determine logistics:

A proposed agenda is below
Time Mins   Title Description Additional Info Goals Materials
09:00 30'   Introduction A good session starts with pulling people out of their comfort zone and getting the energy level right.
Don’t start with a 30 min presentation on why you are doing this.
Rather follow the following 3 step approach
Introduce yourself and the context (2 min)
Pro-Tip: ask everyone to put away laptops and phones and tell them they are welcome to send an email or take a call outside if they have to.
Ask everyone to draw their neighbor, give him/her the drawing and introduce themselves.
Put a ridiculous HMW statement on the board (eg. How might we improve the life of monkeys in the zoo) and distribute brainstorm cards for a 10 min quick brainstorm exercise
Start session off on a good foot Paper
09:30 30'   Back of the Napkin Teams of 3.   No limit to the number of teams other than what the organizer wants.   Object of Play:
The goal for each team is to come up with an answer  to athe question "What does Team Excellence look like" and write/draw it up on the back of a napkin.
  • A napkin that’s around 5″ x 5″
  • Gel pencils
10:00 90'   Open Space Technology When people must tackle a common complex challenge, you can release their inherent creativity and leadership as well as their capacity to self-organize.
Open Space makes it possible to include everybody in constructing agendas and addressing issues that are important to them. Having co-created the agenda and free to follow their passion, people will take responsibility very quickly for solving problems and moving into action. Letting go of central control (i.e., the agenda and assignments) and putting it in the hands of all the participants generates commitment, action, innovation, and follow-through. You can use Open Space with groups as large as a couple of thousand people!

13:45 30'   25/10 Crowd Sourcing  You can help a large crowd generate and sort their bold ideas for action in 30 minutes or less! With 25/10 Crowd Sourcing, you can spread innovations “out and up” as everyone notices the patterns in what emerges. Though it is fun, fast, and casual, it is a serious and valid way to generate an uncensored set of bold ideas and then to tap the wisdom of the whole group to identify the top ten. The Team and Workplace Excellence Forum is excited to be hosting an Unconference, and I am excited to be able to invite you to the workshop at Masary Studios in Boston, MA on February 29th from 9:00 am to 2:30 pm.

An unconference is basically a conference without predefined topics. The high level structure and theme is team excellence and quality culture, but actual topics are generated by the participants on the spot, and breakout groups are formed dynamically based on interest and relevance.

We have a stimulating day planned. We will be discussing team excellence and quality culture and contributing to development of a body of knowledge for the Team and Workplace Excellence Forum. The agenda is here.

The Unconference is free to all ASQ members. Non-ASQ members are welcome to participate but there is a additional charge of $15.00 per person for lunch.

Please RSVP by February 24th so we can reserve a seat for you. We are looking forward to seeing you there. If there is anything you will need or have any questions, please don't hesitate to let me know. The RSVP is here.

The event page is here:
I am looking forward to the Unconference on the 29th! We have an exciting day planned and f you are near the Boston area I hope you can join us. There is still time to register.
