Replacing Email

Cal Newport, wrote in the New Yorker "Was Email a Mistake?" In this article he makes excellent points about how asynchronous communication, specifically email, does not work and tat we need to replace it with structured, face-to-face encounters. A thought provoking article, I encourage you to read it.

I'd love to ask my colleagues in the ASQ to build on this article by answering a question:
  1. If we take his points seriously, and work to eliminate use of emails, how do we structure and incentive our teams and workplace?
  2. Or, if we think asynchronous communication in the form of email has value, how do we mitigate eliminate the very real problems?
