Message from the Chair – January 2023

“The secret of change is to focus all of your energy not on fighting the old, but on building the new.” - Socrates

I wish all the ASQ Section 1001 Members & Guests a very Happy New Year!

I am very thankful for all the hard work that continues to bring strong member value to the Quality Professionals in the Grand Rapids Section. Not only are we one of the few sections continuing to hold in-person meetings, but we also have a highly qualified educational staff ready to help you through your certification process!

Please join us in January when we will trial a new meeting format. The change coming in 2023 will be a streamlined agenda. Even with exciting quality topics and a new, centralized venue, our meeting attendance has decreased. In addition, it takes volunteers to support in-person dinner meetings, as there are numerous behind the scenes tasks required for a successful event. Due to the decreased in-person attendance, the Section Leadership Committee needed to adjust the monthly meeting format to keep our Section in good financial standing.

Beginning in January, 2023 the following changes will be made to the ASQ Presents! monthly meetings for the remainder of the year.

  • The in-person ASQ Presents! meeting will no longer include dinner.
  • You could eat before you arrive or enjoy the convenience of having dinner at the hotel restaurant, network, and then come to the meeting.
  • The cost will be $15.00 for everyone, virtual or in-person.
  • The program agenda would look like this:

5:45 Doors open, Networking Café

6:15 Launch the Zoom Meeting

6:30 Welcome & Announcements

6:45 Tutorial

7:00 Intro of the speaker & main speaker presentation

7:45 Questions & Comments

8:00 Closing Remarks

Please know that with any change comes much deliberation behind the scenes. A major factor for increasing the Zoom meeting price is the ePly transaction cost, which although comparable to Eventbrite fees, is significant.

The fee to use ePly is $1 per registration and a 3.7% credit card processing fee.

The SLC strives to provide the section with relevant member value, while keeping the Grand Rapids Section viable, healthy and thriving for years to come. The SLC will continue to evaluate the meeting format and would appreciate any input from our members.

Thank you for supporting the Grand Rapids Section!

Chad Wittkopp,

Chair Grand Rapids Section 1001
