Message from the Chair – December 2020

To give without any reward, or any notice, has a special quality of its own.”  - Anne Morrow Lindbergh

Season’s Greetings Grand Rapids Members & Friends!
One of my favorite section activities during the program year is our community give back event.  Traditionally, it would take place at the November monthly meeting and was often associated with the Thanksgiving Holiday.  Activities in the past included collecting food items or coats and mittens to donate to local charities.  Last year, the Grand Rapids Section supported the Marine Corps and its Move the Monument undertaking.  This successful event saw member donations matched by the section general fund to create a significant gift for our veterans.
As with most aspects of our life during this year, COVID-19 impacted our give back event and made it extremely difficult to conduct a safe and secure activity.  Instead, I encourage you to give to a local charity.  This year has been challenging for so many, but we can all come together to help the people in our community hurt by COVID-19.  Please consider donating today on Giving Tuesday or any time during this holiday season to help those in need.  Thank You!!

The Virtual Tour of Bier Distillery in November was the last section event of 2020, there will be no December meeting.  The next scheduled ASQ Presents! meeting will be a Zoom Meeting held January 14, 2021; when Denise Robitaile will present Remote Auditing: A Quick and Simple Guide for Management System Auditors.  Please join us to learn more about this truly relevant topic.

This has been an unusual year and COVID-19 was not factored into our 2020 Business Plan, however the Grand Rapids Section Leadership Committee responded and was critical in maintaining a program year that resembled our normal schedule of events.  I personally want to thank them for their time and extraordinary efforts to provide Knowledge – Networking – Opportunities during this unusual year and sincerely appreciate all they have done for the section.

I also want to thank our members who have adapted to new technologies, continue to attend meetings, and engage with the section, which hasn’t always been easy as we navigate our way through this new normal.  It has been my pleasure to serve you this past year and I look forward to a productive New Year in 2021, as we strive to provide beneficial meetings, classes, and events to give you member value as we pursue
Excellence Through Quality!

Stay healthy, safe and have a Blessed Holiday Season and a Happy New Year!!!
