Keynote 1 SATURDAY APRIL 17 | 10:30 AM TO 12 NOON
VARIATION TRANSMISSION INVESTIGATIONS
Reducing the variation in process outputs is a key part of process improvement. For mass produced components and assemblies, reducing variation can simultaneously reduce overall cost, improve function and increase customer satisfaction with the product. This talk will cover some of the concepts and ideas useful in variation reduction projects, including: dominant cause, the method of elimination, families of causes of variation and fixed and varying inputs. The main focus of the talk will be on the use of variation transmission investigations in industrial
problem solving. We will consider when and how to conduct such an investigation. Interactively, using the virtual manufacturing process Watfactory (Watfactory login - uWaterloo.ca), we will explore how to interpret the results and draw conclusions that help drive process improvement.
WHAT YOU WILL LEARN:
- How to use variation transmission investigations to identify the causes of variation including fixed and varying inputs,
- Pinpointing the dominant cause of variation, and
- The approach and method of elimination.
LEVERAGING ISO 9000 TO IMPLEMENT AN INFORMATION & PRIVACY MANAGEMENT USING ISO 27001/27701
The ISO 9001 management system can, and should, be used to implement an Information Security Management System (ISMS) as well as a Privacy Information Management System (PIMS). ISO 9001 has important “tools” that help with the implementation of an effective ISMS such as: Management Review, Internal Audit, and improvement processes inherent in every Quality Management System (QMS).
In this presentation we’ll provide a brief overview of ISO 27001/27701 followed by descriptions of how ISO 9001 processes may be leveraged in the implementation of an ISMA and PIMS. While many believe that Information Security is the responsibility of the IT department, ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 27001 and many other modern ISO management standards share the very same high-level structure. This approach used in the development of the ISO Management System can help organizations leverage existing certification, design and operating management systems to fine-tune their specific organization.
WHAT YOU WILL LEARN:
- Learn how ISO 27001:2013 allows you to meet regulatory and legislative requirements for information security & privacy.
