ASQ Phoenix - Message from the Chair - January 2025

New Year Greetings January 2025-

With the closure of 2024, our Phoenix Section Chair Hilary Werner has passed the “baton” to me as the new Section Chair as she assumes new duties at the ASQ Regional level. As for myself, I’ve been a member of first ASQC, joining in 1986, and then obtaining Senior Member and the certifications of CQA and CQE in 1996, and CQM (now CMQ/OE) in early 1997 - just before we changed our name to ASQ. Although I’ve been in the Quality profession for over 40 years, 20 in senior management, I grew up in Quality as my father was a Fellow of ASQC, a CQE and CQA, and a PE in Quality Engineering. With my brother also in Quality it seems it’s our family passion. I hope I can faithfully continue his volunteerism in his days of ASQC forward into 2025 for our Section as your Chair.

Many may think that our quality techniques and tools started in the 40’s when ASQC was founded – but in 1929 a book was published entitled “Quality Maintenance” – detailing business best practices to maintain a quality product – the same practices we embrace today.

Furthering the profession’s techniques and tools, used too little still today in business, should be our mission – passing these on through the Monthly Program speakers and other methods possibly such as webinars, Section sponsored conferences, certification classes, partnering with Valley businesses or other methods from you our Section members.

So, any ideas please bring forward to the Section Leadership Team.
