Greetings ASQ Phoenix Section Members –

With May coming to a close, we are nearing the halfway point of 2023! While so many wonderful things have happened within the section these past few months, I am even more excited about those to come! We have so much planned for the remainder of the year, and hope that you will stay engaged with us as we reveal additional details in the months ahead. I, for one, love surprises and don’t want to divulge our secrets too early.

Immediate Past Chair, Bob Mitchell, and I had the pleasure of representing the Phoenix Section at the World Conference on Quality and Improvement this month in Philadelphia. While there, we had the privilege of seeing several wonderful presentations, including those by Seth Mattison who spoke on the evolving dynamics of work and leadership, and Rebecca Kowalski who presented on sustainability in the workforce and the role quality plays in sustainability objectives. Olympian Chaunte Lowe wrapped up the keynote presentations with a talk on diversity and inclusion in the workplace; her presentation even included relevant anecdotes (and photos) from her time competing on the world stage. There were also several amazing workshops and presentations by ASQ members and affiliates. ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) was an underlying theme in many of the presentations and panels. By the close of the conference, attendees were equipped with a more comprehensive understanding of how to better conduct business and sustain long term organizational success through the utilization of ESG principles. Overall, the conference was a huge success; participants left with a head full of relevant knowledge and many new connections in their networks. If I didn’t see you there this year, I hope to see you next year in San Diego!

If you are looking for an opportunity to network with friends and colleagues in the near future, the Phoenix Section has the perfect opportunity for you this month! We hope you will join us for a brewery tour of San Tan Gardens Brewery in Chandler, Arizona on June 24th. The tour will begin promptly at 2:00 p.m. and will be followed by an early networking dinner at San Tan Brewery in downtown Chandler. The tour is complimentary to ASQ Phoenix Section members. Guests are welcome. For additional information and registration information (registration is required due to a limited number of spots), please check your email inbox for an invitation as well as the Phoenix Section web page on myASQ. I hope to see you there!

I look forward to seeing you at our next virtual member meeting on Thursday, June 8th! Until then, it is my wish that you stay safe, stay healthy, and stay connected.

Cheers!

Hilary Werner
